A panoramic scanning dental X-ray of the upper and lower jaw is called an orthoorthopantomogramOPG. Additionally, it is occasionally referred to by the trade name Panorex or Orthopantomagraph. It depicts a two-dimensional, flattened half-circle that stretches from ear to ear. With the use of panoramic X-rays, pictures from various angles can be combined to create a composite panoramic image that shows the mandible and maxilla (upper jaw) in the visible region. Structures outside of the field of view appear blurry. During your dental care, your dentist will probably take an OPG. The quantity, position, and growth of every tooth—including those that haven't yet broken through the gum line or surfaced—are also visible on an OPG. It's not the same as the tiny, up-close X-rays that dentists take of individual teeth. It displays a far wider field of view but less fine detail. This can be especially helpful for examining hard-to-see places like wisdom teeth or a child's developing jaw and teeth. Additionally, it is frequently used to examine the temporomandibular joint, or CMA (craniomandibular articulation), in your jaw, particularly if you grind your teeth.
